WEATHER UPDATE: BIG WEDNESDAY

Tuesday 23 October 2012

An intense low had formed in the northern Tasman generating a large dangerous swell along the coast.

The worst of it will be in between Smokey Cape and Southport. Strong currents will be a feature so take care. Swell is for the experience, fit surfers only with the best waves in the southern protected point breaks.

Another southerly has come and gone and again very little rain has fallen so the below average trend continues.

The heat is going to re-build over the next couple of days after a nice reprieve especially inland.

Wednesday is looking comfortable but on Thursday temperatures will climb back into the 30s for most.

The next southerly change comes through on Friday but sadly, once again, very little rain will fall. Only some coastal showers on Sunday.

FEATURED WEATHER SHOT

Garry K Smith took this on the highway near Katherine. A mirage is caused by hot air sitting on the surface. Hot air expands and therefore bends the light creating the phenomenon which obviously can be captured by a camera which uses light to create an image.
