Fears that Bulahdelah Hospital could close have been put to rest, with Hunter New England Health announcing half a million dollars in improvements.
The upgrade is aimed at attracting GPs to the area, after the town’s only doctor left his practice in September last year.
Efforts to recruit a new one have been unsuccessful.
Under the proposed changes, the hospital’s two-bed 24-hour emergency department will be closed and the hospital will also not accept overnight inpatients.
