The Rural Fire Service has commenced an investigation into an incident near Port Macquarie last week, which saw 29 fire fighters sprayed with secondary treated sewage.
Last Tuesday, a fire fighting helicopter used water from the Kew Sewage Treatment Plant to water-bomb a fire burning at Kew.
The RFS says it immediately withdrew the volunteers and began decontamination procedures.
The affected fire fighters were treated by paramedics, and at this stage, no-one has suffered ill-effects.
