IRC AND COUNCIL ORDERED TO TALK

The Industrial Relations Commission has heard a job advertisement seeking a chief of staff for Newcastle’s Lord Mayor is a possible breach of the Local Government Act.

The United Services Union claims the ad will result in a redundancy and by workplace agreement, the union, a council committee, and the affected staff members must be told.

The IRC was also given evidence of a facebook page allegedly showing Jeff McCloy’s advisor Josh Hodges has already laid claim to the job.

The Mayor and council have been ordered to consult with the union, before returning to the IRC in eight days, or face the prospect of an investigation by the Department of Local Government.
