AIRPORT UPGRADE A STEP CLOSER

A $21-million upgrade of Port Macquarie airport is closer, with council accepting a tender for the first stage of work.
After two years of detailed planning and design work, Downer Edi Works was awarded the project last night, and is set to start construction next month.
Council says the upgrade is crucial to boosting the region’s growth, economic development and tourism potential.
The upgrade includes widening the existing runway, expanding the terminal building, and relocating the helicopter landing and parking areas.
