YACHT SINKS AFTER RACE COLLISION

Investigations are underway into a collision between two yachts, that saw one of them sink off Newcastle yesterday afternoon.
The vessels were competing in a regular Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club event when the incident happened.
The 9 metre, timber hulled, Woodstock was hit and sank quickly in 26 metres of water, off the Cowrie Hole. The crew of six transfered onto the club’s rescue boat without injury.
There’s been no decision on whether a salvage attempt will be made for the yacht.
A job well done by the rescue boat, driven by Greg Jackson, who saved the six sailors on board the Woodstock off Newcastle yesterday.
