There will be a stronger than usual police presence on Newcastle’s streets this weekend,as part of a two-day crackdown on drunken violence.
Operation Unite begins tonight, with thousands of extra officers on duty across the country.
Newcastle’s usual trouble spots including Finnegans and Fannys will be closely monitored, and revellers are being warned police will be taking a zero-tolerance attitude.
Last year 89 people across the Northern Region were arrested as part of the operation.
