A 15-year-old from Taree has been refused bail, charged over the armed robbery of the Chatham Newsagency last month.
Police allege he was one of three males who entered the Crescent Avenue store on November 24, armed with a baseball bat and metal pole.
The 69-year-old business owner was bashed and suffered head and arm injuries.
The trio escaped with cash and cigarettes in a stolen car.
