A bushfire emergency at Kurri Kurri in the Hunter has eased overnight with a change in weather assisting crews to get it under control.
More than a hundred firefighters battled the blaze that flared up yesterday afternoon.
There were fears that falling embers could ignite nearby homes as flames shot into the air.
But firefighters gained the upper hand overnight and are backburning near properties with flames in remotes areas being allowed to burn out.

Kurri kurri bush fire. It was great to see the help fireys gave us. But what happen to back burning. This did happen why have they not done this. I feel that we are going to have more fire’s. May be we won’t be so lucky next time. All fire bugs need to be dealt with. Thank you.
