Considered one of the greatest poets of his generation, Les Murray has passed away in Taree.
Known as the Bard of Bunyah, Murray spent his early years on a farm in the Manning Valley, eventually returning to live on the same property later in life.
During his 50-year career, he published more than 30 volumes, centred around the history and landscape of Australia.
An Order of Australia recipient, Murray’s poems included Fredy Neptune, and Waiting for the Past.
Les Murray was 80.
