MIKE RABBITT’S AUS DAY HONOUR

He’s well known as NBN’s sport reader but it’s his work outside of the studio that has earned him a very special Australia Day honour.

Mike Rabbitt has been awarded an Order of Australia medal, something he says came as quite a surprise.

Mike Rabbitt has been awarded an Order of Australia medal, something he says came as quite a surprise.

” A little bit shocked, a little bit dumbfounded there are many more people in the community that are much more deserving of an award like this than me. It has certainly come as a great surprise. If I ever find out who actually nominated they are in a bit of strife, but it really is a great honour, but as I mentioned a really big shock.”

The accolade is in recognition of his work as promoter, fundraiser and host for many sporting and charitable organisations across the Hunter, Central Coast and Northern Rivers.

“You can see organisations develop, you can see what they do for the community so the little bit that you can do to help those organisations again goes back to benefit the whole community.”

Most notably some of the organisations Mike has worked with include;

Member, Board of Trustees, Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, since 2007.
Founding Director, Central Coast Academy of Sport, since 2004.
Honorary Member, Australian Olympic Committee in Newcastle and the Central Coast, 2000.
Member, Marketing Committee, Australian Masters Games, 2008.
Patron, Tomaree Triathlon Club.

  1. What a fantastic accolade!

    Our side of the Rabbitt family knew of his success as a newsreader, but he kept his community work close to heart obviously, as we were unaware of his commitment in this area.

    What an Aussie!
