UNLUCKY DRIVER DODGES FALLING BRANCH

A woman got the shock of her life when she was driving through suburban Newcastle
around midday on Sunday.
She was heading south down Kitchener Parade in Mayfield East when a massive limb off
a tree crashed onto her car just as she was diving under it.
The limb left a huge concave dent in the roof of the Holden Barina, tore a wing
mirror off and smashed the windscreen. The woman came to a stop about 50 metres down
the street.
She was visibly shaken but not injured.
The branch also landed on a car parked underneath the tree.
It’s not known why the limb snapped from the tree, however the weight of water from
today’s heavy rain may have been a factor.
