Boaters will foot the bill for upgrades to the state’s volunteer Marine Rescue Service through a new levy on boat licenses.
$7.50 will be added to the annual cost of boat licenses and registrations each year, totalling to $5 million extra revenue each year.
The money will be spent on upgrading equipment and providing training for volunteers.
The levy comes in to effect in September.
