GRAFTON LEVEE MAY HAVE TO BE RAISED

The levee that saved Grafton’s CBD from the recent flood may have to be raised an extra 50 millimetres. Council has confirmed that’s the advice it has received from Roads and Maritime Services in relation to a second bridge across the Clarence River.
A spokesman says pylons from a new bridge could push the flood heights slightly higher as water surges around the structure.
The State Government recently gave a commitment to build a new bridge.
“It is a priority to us and in coming budgets – you’ll see the money locked in for that” said Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner.
An environmental impact study will have to be conducted before a final decision is made on Grafton’s second bridge.
