DRUNK DRIVER AVOIDS JAIL TIME

A Gateshead man given jail time for getting behind the wheel 10 times over the legal blood alcohol limit has successfully appealed his sentence.
Brian Geoffrey Smith was handed 10-months behind bars in Belmont Local Court last October, but was bailed pending an appeal.
The 41-year old today had his sentence reduced to an eight-month Intensive Correction Order, meaning he will not go to prison.
Smith has been disqualified from driving for three years.
