DUMMIES BRING NEW LIFE TO MEDICAL TRAINING

Coffs Harbour base hospital today unveiled its new $1.5-million simulated learning centre.
The facility will help train medical students in a variety of clinical and emergency scenarios, with realistic dummies as patients.
“For all students to come into an environment where it’s not real patients they’re in a simulated environment so they have the ability to make a mistake without impacting on patient care” said unit manager Rod Peadon.
The dummies, which range from infant to elderly, can speak, breath, and even display clinical symptoms.
A simulated mobile service will also be hitting the road, providing training in areas like Dorrigo, Macksville and Kempsey.
