BOMB DETONATED AT ROBINA
A crude pipe-bomb has been detonated by police after it was discovered underneath a vehicle, in the caryard at Von Bibra Nissan in Robina.
The Auto Village and nearby Car Wash were shut down for almost three hours, while the bomb squad attached a chain to the device, then dragged it to a nearby vacant lot, before blowing it up.
“It’s a little bit like a movie scene but the safety of everyone of this nature is the most important thing.”
“It was a round cyclindrical device with tape, what appeared to be tape at either end”
Along with the bomb squad, six police units and the helicopter were called in to enforce a 100 metre exclusion zone.
One possibility being investigated – the device may have been thrown from a passing car, when the driver noticed an RBT unit parked in the street over the weekend.
