SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY HONOUR ANZACs

As ANZAC Day 2013 draws near, Hunter schools and community groups are moving to ensure the service and sacrifice of our diggers isn’t forgotten.
At Newcastle’s Civic Theatre today, the combined schools service was dedicated to those captured by the Japanese in World War Two.
Drama students presented interpretations of first-hand accounts from veterans.
At Mayfield East Public, puppets evoked stories of mateship and tragedy in the trenches of World War One.
And at Nelson Bay, a new display has been set up at the Diggers Club, featuring artefacts and photos of Port Stephens as a World War Two training base.
