CONTROVERSIAL ‘VIEW TAX’ ABOLISHED

Council has, this afternoon, voted to abolish the controversial ‘View Tax’.
It means owner-occupiers of highrises will be better off – but not those who own a highrise as an investment or holiday rental.
Mayor Tom Tate promised, no ratepayer would be worse off.
The $1.8-million loss in revenue will be found in recurring savings.
The decision wasn’t unanimous.
Four Councillors voted against the proposal, questioning why owners of vertical properties should get a break, while owners of large horizontal lots won’t.
