MAITLAND COUNCIL RECOMMENDS REFURB

Maitland Council will proceed with the planned revitalisation of Central Maitland, with recommendations for The Levee precinct released today.
In a report to be presented to Council next Tuesday, recommendations are made for the physical program of works to be completed.
The changes include the refurbishment of High Street featuring a shared vehicle and pedestrian zone with stone paving in the Heritage Mall space.
The second component features the construction of the River Link building and partial refurbishment of the River Walk and river side section of the Bourke Street link.
The recommendations total more than $14.5-million, with council to borrow $10-million if the proposal goes ahead.
GM David Evans said he’s confident the design and recommended program of works will align with
expectations held by the community.
“Council’s community research over the past two years shows the revitalisation of Central Maitland is of importance to the majority of residents”, he said.
Work on the Levee project is scheduled to commence in early 2014.
