LIFE JACKET KEEPS KAYAKER ALIVE

A kayaker spent more than three hours in water near Port Stephens after rolling his vessel yesterday afternoon.

The 26-year-old man was paddling with a friend off Boondelbah when he went missing.

Search crews spotted the man off Tomaree Headland, plucking him from the water at around 9pm.

Police say the life jacket he was wearing kept him alive.

“This man is alive thanks to his life jacket and the hard work of everyone involved in the search…I cannot reiterate enough the importance of wearing life jackets while participating in water sports,” said Superintendent Mark Hutchings.

The man was physically exhausted but uninjured.
