Matt Banting has finished equal third at the US Open of Surfing, after falling to event winner, Alejo Muniz in their semi final heat.
The Port Macquarie teenager finished with a score of 11.5, but it wasn’t enough to beat Muniz, who pulled out a 14 point performance.
Banting’s result launches him from 92nd to 41st on the ASP World Ranking.
