Now Cliff Ireland has a surf boat named in his honour.
With the help of sponsors, Nobbys Surf Club launched the new craft on Sunday, with Cliff on hand to give it a special blessing.
Nobbys also welcomed the addition of a new All Terrain Vehicle, which will carry lifesaving equipment on beach patrols.
