LIONS ROAR TO KEEP THEIR REAL NRL FINALS HOPES ALIVE

NEWCASTLE RUGBY LEAGUE
Round 16

MAITLAND 34 – LAKES 20
CESSNOCK 46 – CENTRAL NEWCASTLE 6
SOUTHS 29 – WESTS 6

In the Real NRL, the top two teams lost in round 16, while Maitland, Cessnock and Souths all kept themselves in the running for the finals.
Leading Wests 19-nil at half time, Souths extended their lead shortly after the break through Ryan Pywell.
The defending champions were literally having their pants pulled down, but even with Todd Hurrell and Jerome Wilson sent to the bin, the Lions held their nerve.
Hooker Joe Cudmore wrapped up the points for the home side.
Nothing was going right for the Rosellas, with a late try to Simon Williams a simple consolation.
