GRAFTON JAIL COULD BECOME MAXIMUM SECURITY AGAIN

State Attorney-General Greg Smith has revealed Grafton jail could be home to a maximum security facility again sometime in the future.
In answers to recent questions in parliament, Mr Smith admitted a statewide increase in prisoner numbers could force the New South Wales Government to reconsider the future of Grafton jail.
But he denied the government showed a lack of judgment in downsizing the prison to a near empty minimum security facility in 20-12.
Mr Smith also said the current spike in prison populations was largely the result of police targeting bikie gangs.
