MOTION FAILS TO STOP COUNCIL CHANGES

A late challenge has failed to stop a controversial management restructure at Newcastle Council.

Labor councillors put forward a recission motion at last night’s meeting, claiming the original voting process was undemocratic, and that they weren’t given a full briefing on what was being proposed.

The motion failed, seven votes to six.

Five senior managers will be shed, with leading roles at the art gallery, the museum and possibly Fort Scratchley to be amalgamated.
