KOALAS RECOVER AFTER FLEEING FROM BUSH FIRE

A koala and its joey are recovering well after being rescued from a bushfire on Maria River Road north of Port Macquarie last week.
The large grass fire started at about midday on Thursday, and ripped through 450 hectares of land.
“They had been fleeing from the fire yeah they were over the road the fire was just on the other side of Maria River Road and they were just clinging to a fence post.”
The koalas, named Gabby and Ken after their rescuers, suffered shock but weren’t injured.
They’ll be released into the wild in the coming weeks.
