Survivors and advocates against sexual violence lit candles at a moving ceremony at Southport today, as a statement of solidarity and a symbol of hope.
October is Sexual Violence Awareness month which aims to give victims a voice.
Sharon Tomlinson who was attacked by repeat sex offender Robert Fardon as a child also shared her story.
“I lit that candle for that little girl in me for that little child that was destroyed as a young person by a terrible preditor” (13.04.40 )
She encouraged survivors to use their experience to empower themselves and support others.
