PERM WARNING ON PHONE SCAM

The Newcastle Permanent is warning its customers about a phone scam operating in the Hunter Valley.

Perm customers have been phoned by scammers posing as representatives of the Newcastle Permanent or from a government organisation and asking for their account details so they can be paid money owed to them.
Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said the Building Society has a policy to never
solicit personal account information over the telephone, via email or internet links.
“The members contacted by these scammers became suspicious and acted in a diligent
manner informing our call centre about the experience, which we appreciate,” Mr Millett
said.
“If a member does receive a telephone call requesting they supply their account details
hang up and please call our Member Support Centre immediately on 13 19 87.
“Our corporate security team has alerted the department of fair trading about the incidents
so they can take appropriate measures,” Mr Millett said.
