A last ditch effort to save the iconic Miami Ice building on the Gold Coast Highway has failed.
A local councillor had hoped to move the 64-year-old property, and use it as a community centre.
But Council has been advised, the building, riddled with asbestos and white ants, is a safety hazard, and should be demolished.
A “Save Miami Ice” Facebook group says, it’s a sad day for the city.
“Unfortunately all of our collective memories will end up under I guess a generic apartment block.”
It’s hoped some of the building’s facade and old machinery will be turned into artwork.
