The recent heavy rain has put a dampener on the opening of the Hunter Expressway.
The link was scheduled to be complete by December, but Roads and Maritime Services now hopes it will be ready before Christmas, depending on the weather.
A community day planned for Kurri Kurri on Saturday to celebrate the near completion of the project has also been postponed.
The $1.7-billion freeway extends from the Newcastle Link Road to Branxton.
