Lake Macquarie councillors have unanimously supported a plan to rip out and replace Toronto’s iconic fig trees.
Council delayed a decision to revamp The Boulevard in September, deciding to consult the community further to prevent a Laman Street-style fiasco.
It received 250 submissions against the proposal.
While healthy, the trees have caused extensive underground damage, and the mayor confirmed last month there have been successful legal claims against council.
