There has been a backlash from councils after being told they must top up their dwindling superannuation fund with ratepayers money.
The issue came to a head at the Country Mayors Conference, and it seems most of the region’s cash-strapped councils simply won’t be able to afford the bill.
Gunnedah and Moree councils may have to consider a special rate rise to cover the shortfall.
