AGED CARE FACILITY EVACUATED AFTER CEILING COLLAPSE

Residents at Bupa Aged Care in West Kempsey were evacuated this morning, after part of the ceiling collapsed.

Just after 11, staff say they heard an explosion, before water flooded one of the wings.

“On our inspection we found a main in the ceiling, a hydrant main that had burst and it came down over the top of a corridor.”

Fortunately, no one was injured, and just five of the wing’s 23 residents were inside at the time.

The incident didn’t dampen spirits though – the facility’s Christmas party went ahead without a hitch.
