A critical incident investigation has been launched following the serious injury of a 13-year-old boy near Taree, early this morning.
The incident occurred when police attempted to stop the driver of a Nissan utility on The Buckets Way about 2am.
Police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns, however a short time later the driver lost control and left the road colliding with a sign.
A number of occupants ran from the scene.
The13-year-old suffered serious back injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
