Police are at the scene of a siege on the Gold Coast. There are reports that a man has been holding his teenage son hostage with a knife in a unit at Currumbin.
Joe Hockey says he’s ready to be criticised for the budget he’ll hand down tonight. Among the new measures expected are a co-payment when visiting the doctor, a levy on high-income earners, a future rise in the pension age to 70, an increase in fuel tax and cuts to the public service.
Luck wasn’t on the side of two alleged robbers last night, as Police pulled in to fuel up at the Sydney petrol station they were attempting to hold up. After a brief stand off the pair surrendered.
And a crane will be used to save a fire truck which slumped into a sink hole on Sydney’s northern beaches. The fire crew was investigating reports of damage caused by a burst watermain when the hole opened up.
