Injured Newcastle Knight, Alex McKinnon, has had some positive signs of movement below his waist, according to an official update from the club.
The player said he is keen to get movement back into his hands and fingers so he can text and call people like he used to.
Alex is said to be upbeat and focused on his two-year rehabilitation, which at this point includes the partial straightening of his legs.
However he said his lack of progress in some periods has been “a bit hard” at times.
“You kind of think, now I’m not going to improve anymore,” he said.
“I think it’s going to be over a year to realise where I’m at”.
His injury followed an awkward tackle during the club’s clash with the Melbourne Storm on March 24th.
