HUNTER DIGS DEEP FOR THE SALVOS

The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal has so far $204,000 across the Hunter.
An army of 600 volunteers knocked-on doors on Saturday and Sunday.
“Across the weekend we had over 600 collectors don a red Salvos apron and hit the streets for the doorknock appeal, bringing in a solid result for the Hunter and allowing us to raise funds for those who need it most.” said Hunter Appeal Director Amber Dale.
“Seeing people come together created a strong sense of community spirit and I think that was felt across the Hunter, whether it was a soccer team collecting before their game on Saturday, or volunteers rattling buckets at the Newcastle Night Markets on Friday – every donation makes a difference and we are really grateful.”
The Salvation Army says not all areas were covered by volunteers, so donations can still be made until the end of June by calling the Salvos or visiting salvos.org.au.
“The interim figures are positive and we are still to count the money raised by Salvos Red Threads – hundreds of businesses have taken part this year across Newcastle and we are hoping to raise some great funds,” said Amber.
