YAMBA BOATBUILDER HOPING TO EXPAND AT PALMER ISLAND

A Yamba boatbuilding company wants to create a marine precinct at Palmer Island.

The application by Yamba Welding and Engineering will be considered at tonight’s Clarence Valley Council meeting.

Hoping to build bigger boats, and more of them, the company says the project could contribute $21-million a year to the local economy.

A spokesperson says if the rezoning proposal is approved, more industry related businesses would be attracted to the area and there’s a potential to create 200 jobs.
