SOUL CAFE MAKING RECORD AMOUNT OF MEALS FOR HOMELESS

Newcastle’s Soul Cafe is making more meals than ever due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Volunteer Sue Prosser says they’re seeing more than 50 people a day, and she’s noticed some new faces in the queues.
“We’re saying take two or three days worth of meals, so you’re not coming out, because we’re very protective of that as well. We’ve got a skeleton volunteer service as well, because obviously we want to protect our volunteers as well.” – Sue Prosser, Soul Cafe.
The cafe is normally staffed by 180 volunteers, but it’s hard to cut back.
It’s opening on Saturdays to meet demand.
