Lake Macquarie councillors have knocked back a controversial road change at Caves Beach.
Spoon Rock Road was temporarily opened as a thoroughfare during the construction of a nearby subdivision, and council officers suggested the move become permanent.
But last night, councillors voted unanimously against the proposal.
More than 1,300 people had signed a petition opposing the move, concerned it would cause traffic dramas in the small street.
