LAURIETON WELCOMES HOME GOLDEN GIRL SHELLEY
Hundreds of people have lined the streets in Laurieton to welcome home Commonwealth gold medal winner, Shelley Watts.
26-year-old Watts waved to the crowds as she was driven down Bold Street – the wet weather not enough to deter her supporters.
“Oh it’s amazing, it’s fantastic I’ve been waiting for this for about two weeks now, so yeah this couldn’t even dampen spirits.”
The Gold on Bold Parade was thought up by locals as a special way to recognise Watts for her huge achievement.
Shelley won four fights over five days in Glasgow to become Australia’s first female boxing champion at the Commonwealth Games.
