COFFS COAST LIFEGUARDS GET TRAINING FOR SUMMER
A lifeguard training and proficiency day was held at Park Beach in Coffs Harbour today.
Council lifeguards and trainees from Bellingen, Nambucca and Kempsey were assessed on their skills and stamina.
A 400 metre surf swim and an 800 metre beach run were followed by a 400 metre paddle through the surf.
“That’s the testing part and that’s where you find out whether you are a lifeguard or not if you can cope withy the surf conditions and the skills needed to perform CPR and advanced first aid,” said Lifeguard Trainer Scott McCartney.
The surf life saving season starts in three weeks.
