100 YEARS SINCE COOPERNOOK FOREST WAS DECLARED A STATE FOREST
This year marks 100 years since the Cooperbook State Forest, north of Taree, was officially declared a state forest, following years of heavy logging.
During the busiest time, up to 250 people worked in the forest, where there were about six sawmills.
Small pockets of the forest are still logged, but it’s mainly used as a free camping ground.
Today locals and school children gathered to mark the anniversary.
