An infant is in a serious but stable condition in a Hunter hospital, after contracting meningococcal disease.
It’s the third confirmed case in the Hunter New England Health region this year, with the disease claiming the life of a 22-year-old man in February.
Close contacts of the child have been given antibiotics as a precaution.
