The exchange process to hand the keys to the former Newcastle Post Office over to the Awabakal
Aboriginal Land Council will be completed this week.
It follows a long battle for the group, who waited two and a half years for the outcome of a land claim in the Land Environment Court.
The historic post office was previously owned by the state government, but has been empty since 2001.
The land council plans to use the building for a cultural and tourism facility.
