The Nita Reed Dialysis Centre in Taree will close early next year.
Hunter New England Health says the the infrastructure at the Nita Reed centre isn’t suitable for future use.
The public dialysis chairs will be relocated to Forster Private Hospital, and dialysis will still be provided at the Manning Base Hospital, meaning there won’t be a reduction in services.
The change also means patients in Forster-Tuncurry will no longer have to travel for their treatment, but some Manning patients will.
“We know that 30% of patients who attend that facility in the Manning at the moment won’t have to travel there, so some people will have to travel to Forster, but what we’ve done is work with Forster to make sure we’re able to provide transport for people who may need to move there.”
