CLIMATE ACTION GROUP STAGE PROTEST

The Coffs Coast Climate Action Group has staged a peaceful protest outside MP Luke Hartsuyker’s office, over the federal government’s review of the Renewable Energy Target.
The target aims to have 20 percent of Australia’s electricity coming from renewable sources by 20-20.
Geoff Tosio from the Bellingen Solar Depot fears it will be scrapped, saying the move could cripple the industry.
“Solar is helping drive down the price of wholesale electricity and it’s providing a lot of jobs for small and local businesses, the large fossil fuel producers are suffering because of it, but that’s due to their over investment in infrastructure.”
A decision is likely to be made in parliament next week.
Mr Hartsuyker was not in town at the time of the protest.
