STATE’S CHIEF SCIENTIST RELEASES FINAL CSG REPORT

An independent review of coal seam gas activities in New South Wales has found the technical challenges and risks posed by the industry can be managed.
The state’s Chief Scientist and Engineer, Professor Mary O’Kane, released her final report today after a 19-month investigation.
She concluded the industry could be managed safely through the careful designation of areas appropriate to CSG, and high standards of engineering and professionalism in CSG companies.
Professor O’Kane also recommended a whole-of-environment data repository be established so that industry data could be scruitinized when needed.
