50 clubs will be represented in the North Coast Surf Boat Series which hits the waves at Yamba this weekend.
An expected moderate southerly swell is likely to see competitors wear mandatory safety helmets for the first time in competition.
“Once we get to a certain size surf the referee will use a new surf rating matrix and it it gets to a certain amount of points the rowers will be instructed to don their helmets.”
Kempsey – Crescent Head who dominated last year’s series will once again start as favourites tomorrow when competition gets underway at Turners Beach.
